Theo báo cáo của Sở NN&PTNT tỉnh Sóc Trăng, năm 2019 toàn tỉnh đã thả nuôi tôm nước lợ trên diện tích 57.500 ha; trong đó tôm thẻ chân trắng hơn 38.000 ha và tôm sú hơn 19.000 ha. Ước sản lượng đạt hơn 150.000 tấn, vượt gần 11% so với cùng kỳ năm ngoái.
Tuy nhiên, trong niên vụ nuôi vừa qua, Sóc Trăng cũng xảy ra thiệt hại hơn 5.000 ha, chiếm 8,8% so với diện tích thả nuôi. Nguyên nhân thiệt hại là do các yếu tố môi trường bị biến động, bệnh hoại tử gan tuỵ cấp, bệnh đốm trắng, bệnh phân trắng… Ngành nông nghiệp tỉnh Sóc Trăng nhận định, tình hình nuôi tôm nước lợ của tỉnh trong năm qua cơ bản thắng lợi về kế hoạch diện tích thả nuôi lẫn sản lượng.

Bà Quách Thị Thanh Bình, Chi cục Phó Chi cục Thủy sản địa phương cho rằng, có được kết quả này là nhờ ngành nông nghiệp chủ động thực hiện chuyển giao khoa học kỹ thuật, công tác quan trắc môi trường nước và phòng chống dịch bệnh…
Ngoài ra, công tác thanh kiểm tra vật tư đầu vào, quản lý chặt chẽ con giống đến quản lý tổ hợp tác, hợp tác xã, đẩy mạnh công tác xây dựng chuỗi liên kết nhằm hướng tới mục tiêu phát triển ổn định tôm nước lợ, hạn chế thiệt hại cho tôm nuôi cũng được chú trọng.
“Công tác chuyển giao khoa học kỹ thuật đã được Chi cục hết sức chú trọng. Chi cục đã nhân bản những mô hình nuôi tôm hiệu quả ở các nơi, từ đó giới thiệu đến các hộ nuôi, tổ hợp tác cùng các trang trại để người dân vận dụng, sáng tạo phù hợp với mô hình nuôi tôm của mình, giúp quá trình nuôi tôm hiệu quả hơn. Đây là một trong những công tác trọng tâm mà Chi cục thành công trong năm nay”, bà Bình cho biết.
Trong năm 2020, tỉnh Sóc Trăng cũng đặt chỉ tiêu thả nuôi tôm nước lợ hơn 50.000 ha, theo đó sẽ thu về sản lượng 167.000 tấn.
